Key aspects of McTimoney chiropractic treatment

GENTLE

The adjustments used to correct misalignments are delivered at very high speed with immediate release, making them comfortable to receive.

WHOLE BODY

McTimoney chiropractic is an holistic therapy concerned with the welfare of the whole body, not just isolated areas causing pain. If one part of the body is malfunctioning then knock-on effects often arise – hip or pelvic problems, for example, may cause knee pain. A McTimoney chiropractor, whenever possible, will treat the whole body at each appointment.

THOROUGH

A new patient must allow at least an hour for the first appointment, which includes a comprehensive health screening and the first treatment. Follow-up treatments average 30-45 minutes.

SUITABLE FOR ALL

Patients of all ages, including young children and the elderly, can benefit from this gentle treatment. It is particularly suitable for expectant and new mothers.

PREVENTATIVE

McTimoney care can prevent problems arising in the first place, and maintenance check-ups are recommended following a course of treatment to avoid future episodes of pain or dysfunction.

SAFE

McTimoney adjustments are very safe, largely because a patient’s bones are never forced to move – they are released naturally towards their correct position. Practitioners are trained to recognise serious disease and will make medical referrals when necessary.

REGULATED

Chiropractic has been regulated by statute since 1994, and its governing professional body is the General Chiropractic Council. There is now a substantial body of evidenced-based research supporting chiropractic treatment.

Private insurance cover

Most major insurance companies are provided for. These include Aviva (Norwich Union), AXA PPP, Standard Life, HSA, CPA, Medisure and PruHealth.

Adjusting the spine (using ‘toggle torque recoil’ adjustments) The Chiropractor finds a misalignment in the patient’s spine and delivers a very fast local adjustment with immediate release. This enables the joint to settle back into a better position naturally, comfortably, and without the use of force.
